For every 1kW of electricity used, a heat pump will produce 3 times as much heat. This means they are 300% more efficient.
The estimated annual running cost of an air source heat pump in a typical UK home is around £960, based on current electricity prices and average system efficiency. However, actual costs can vary depending on specific circumstances.
This is based on:
Efficiency
It’s no secret that gas boilers are usually 90-94% efficient, as heat can be lost and emitted from their flue pipes.
However, air source heat pumps are around 300-400% efficient.
Therefore you will get 3-4 times more heat for every kW of electricity the heat pump uses.
Buy and install
Gas boilers can cost from around £2000-£4000, subject to model and installation rates, therefore becoming the quick and easy choice for home owners.
On the other hand, air source heat pumps cost on average from £2000-£13000, but this doesn’t include the government’s green energy grants, which can eradicate these high costs completely.
It’s common for home owners to opt for gas boilers when they appear cheaper on paper; but they could be missing out on huge savings with the Government’s Boiler Scheme in place.
Running costs
It was thought that gas boilers were more affordable to run until recent research….
A typical gas boiler could cost a normal household £1,320 per year. But with a heat pump efficiently installed by Wilson’s, a saving of £146 per year will be made. This is due to the ridiculous 300-400% efficiency.
Add a solar panel into the mix and your running costs could get closer to zero….
Your air source heat pump can last 20-30 years, compared to an average of 10-15 years for a typical gas boiler.
If this applies to you, you may be qualified for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme Grant and receive £7,500 towards your air source heat pump upgrade.
