New Air Source Heat Pump
Installation in Faversham

LG ThermaV 5KW AIr source heat pump with a UniTherm 200l Pre plumbed hot water Cylinder

Turning Up the Heat (Efficiently)

A homeowner in Faversham approached us seeking a modern, efficient heating system to replace their outdated gas boiler. They were interested in sustainable solutions that could deliver both heating and hot water while reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency. After evaluating the property, an LG ThermaV 5kW air source heat pump was recommended, as well as a pre-plumbed UniTherm 200l Pre plumbed hot water Cylinder.

Working with a pre-plumbed cylinder

Working with a pre-plumbed cylinder, like the UniTherm 200-litre model, significantly simplifies and speeds up the installation process. Since much of the internal pipework and fittings are already integrated into the cylinder, there’s less need for time-consuming custom adjustments on-site. This design reduces the margin for installation errors and ensures a more seamless connection to the rest of the heating system.

The transformation...

Removing and installing

Initially, the old gas boiler was decommissioned and removed from the property. This step was followed by the preparation of the site for the new system. The LG ThermaV heat pump unit was installed outside the house, ensuring it had sufficient airflow and clearance for optimal performance. Its relatively compact design made placement easy, without taking up too much exterior space.

Connecting the boiler

The cylinder was installed, then all we needed to do was connect them together. This pre-plumbed cylinder came with the advantage of speeding up installation time, as it required fewer custom adjustments to fit the existing pipework.

Final touches

The built-in 50-litre buffer tank was connected to the heat pump system, providing additional capacity to handle peak heating demands and ensuring consistent water temperature without causing unnecessary cycling of the heat pump.

Once the system was physically installed, it was connected to the home’s electrical and plumbing infrastructure. Afterward, a comprehensive commissioning process was undertaken to ensure that the system was operating efficiently. This included testing the heat pump’s responsiveness, calibrating the buffer tank, and running performance checks on the cylinder’s hot water output.

Benefits of the installation

The new system significantly reduced the home’s energy consumption compared to the previous gas boiler. The air source heat pump’s ability to extract heat from the air made it a highly sustainable choice, while the 50-litre buffer tank helped optimise energy use.

With the buffer tank, the system was able to maintain a steady temperature, preventing the pump from constantly turning on and off, which can reduce efficiency and increase wear over time.

The 200-litre pre-plumbed cylinder ensured a consistent supply of hot water, meeting the daily needs of the household without any interruptions.

The reliable operation of the LG ThermaV meant that the system required minimal ongoing maintenance, providing long-term peace of mind for the homeowner.

The homeowner expressed satisfaction with the performance of the new system, noting not only the lower energy bills but also the quiet operation and improved comfort levels in the home. This project highlights how modern air source heat pumps, combined with smart hot water solutions, can offer both sustainability and practicality for residential properties.
