FAQ

While some air source heat pumps may produce a low hum during operation, it’s generally not disruptive, especially when compared to other HVAC systems.

If a washing machine is 80 decibels, the air source heat pump is a mere 40-60 when installed correctly by the experts at Wilson’s.

Air source heat pumps are typically categorised as permitted development rights, meaning in many instances, you can install them without needing to obtain approval from your local planning authority. However, there are certain limits and conditions that must be met for this exemption to apply. Sure, here’s the information presented as a list:
  • Maintain a minimum distance of one meter from the property boundary.
  • Ensure no adverse effects on neighbouring properties or the environment.
  • Adhere to planning standards set by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) or equivalent.
  • Limit the outdoor compressor unit’s volume, including housing, to 0.6 cubic meters.
  • Prohibit installation on pitched roofs according to development regulations.
  • Maintain a minimum distance of one meter from the edge of a flat roof if installed there.
  • Avoid installation on a wall above the ground floor level if facing a highway.
  • Ensure the heat pump is used solely for heating purposes.
  • Remove the heat pump if no longer needed.
  • Position the heat pump to blend in with and not disrupt the surroundings.
